About Facing Glory

I am learning that it takes time to see God's glory. It is always there, but when I write I tend to look for it more. And so I write this blog. It's simple, thoughtful and a glimpse of the journey I'm on. I enjoy hearing your ideas, so comment freely.
Love, Lindsay

Today

Thomas Moore : To live ordinary life artfully is to have this sensibility about the things in daily life, to live more intuitively and to be willing to surrender a measure of our rationality and control in return for gifts of the soul.

autumn rains threaten to reign Thursday, September 18, 2008 |

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
They go from strength to strength,
until each appears before God in Zion.
Psalm 84:5-7

Even when it seems that a storm is taking over, you can be reminded that the rains bring abundance in the harvest. If we lived in an agrarian society, rain would have a much deeper meaning to us. Granted, no one in their right mind likes a hurricane, but we can be thankful for the rain. The land will benefit from the water even though it destroyed some stuff in the process of falling.

Monday is September 22. September 22 is the autumnal equinox or the first day of fall. I'm looking forward to it. A new season. A new beginning and praise the Lord, we will again have a current flow through our home as of 10am this morning. Kite flying Benjamin Franklin would be happy for us. Light and power is a good thing when your getting dressed for school at 5am on Monday morning.

that broken reed |

Hello friends. I have frequently shared photos from my beloved circle of quiet to borrow a term from Madeleine L'Engle. The old country club golf course near my house has been a frequented spot for solitude and refreshment. I ventured out to explore it after the hurricane.

In the days following the hurricane, I have seen a lot of broken things. It has got me to thinking about the reality of our spiritual condition. Consider this verse from the thirty sixth book of Isaiah in the Old Testament:

Behold, you are trusting in Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him. But if you say to me, "We trust in the LORD our God," is it not he(I) whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, "You shall worship before this altar"? v6-7

How often do I put my trust in Egypt? How often do I think that even the 'good' things in my life will protect and sustain me? How often to I hold someone besides the Lord in high esteem in my heart? All these things will eventually 'pierce my hand' when I trust in them. However, in the wake of brokenness, there is a great light. When we come to a place of saying, I trust in the LORD my God, he will remove the barriers we have set up between us and Him. He will bring us to His temple to worship Him from a pure heart. Glory!

Ike's Aftermath Sunday, September 14, 2008 |

Hi friends. All is well in Conroe. Well, actually, it's a little crazy here but thankfully there was minimal damage to my home.

I don't really know where to start with processing this storm.

It was big.
It made a mess.
It cost a lot of money.
It destroyed a lot of plans.
It canceled my classes indefinitely.
It put our power out for 1-4 weeks.

I'll post as I have access to power.

Our help is from the LORD, who made the heavens and the earth.
Psalm 124:8

the florals Saturday, July 5, 2008 |

As per requested, here is a photo of the wallpaper in my room currently. I have edited the image and created some alternative looks. Can you guess which one is the real wallpaper? What do you think of the black plaid Stephanie? As I mentioned in a previous blog, I'm ready to move on from the florals of my younger years. I'm still searching for inspiration and time.

A list of things I'm going to do today and maybe you can pick up a few ideas...
1. drink a hot cup of coffee
2. Read a chapter of Jesus for President
3. Take my first Texas Woman's PT exam online...wish me luck!
4. Try to figure out how to make a gratitude wrap
5. Do a little pilates or walk around the block
6. Await a call from a certain friend who is quite pregnant and due any day now

Happy Saturday.

our little puppy dog Thursday, July 3, 2008 |

Meet Gracie. She moved in a couple of years ago and has been a good addition. Sometimes she forgets to brush her hair and we have to remind her that personal grooming is important. She is about to move to College Station with my sister and she will be missed, but she will be back on all the Texas A&M Student holidays.

Enjoy your day and don't forget to brush your hair.

I'll be home for Christmas Friday, December 21, 2007 |

Every Christmas seems to have a certain theme about it and it makes you painfully or joyfully aware of where you are in life. This season is bittersweet for me. I am closing a very beautiful and challenging year in the Texas Hill Country. I am moving home which is a bit of a step backwards, but I'm honestly looking forward to it. I will have a backyard, 3 dogs, a cat and a full house again. Food will magically appear in the fridge and I'll run into old friends around town.
Also, this move is a part of my transition to school in Houston beginning this fall. Texas Woman's University has saved me a spot in the classroom that will mold the class of 2011 Physical Therapy doctoral students. For some reason they want me to be a part of their fun.
As you can see by the photos of the boxes in my house, I am moving. Tomorrow is the big day. Papa helped me reserve a Uhaul, Daddy is bringing up Clifford the big red dodge and friends are coming to save my Dad from injuring his back. Moves are always strange, but this one is really coming together.

Consider This

"You mean you are comparing our lives to a sonnet? A strict form, but freedom within it?"
"Yes," Mrs Whatsit said. "You're given the form, but you have to write the sonnet yourself. What you say is completely up to you."
